Critical Dates

Deadline for All Shipped Artwork - must arrive by or before

• Exhibition Opening - Friday FEBRUARY 14

• Exhibition Closes - Saturday FEBRUARY 22

• Unsold, Local Artwork Pick-Up - Sunday Feb 23, 1-8pm

• Unsold, Shipped Artwork return begins the week following the close of the show.

  • As an artist in the show, attendance is not necessary for your work to be exhibited, however, you are more than welcome to attend as much as you would like, we even encourage it! 

    Upon arrival, proceed through the security-check then stop at the Artist Check-In desk to receive a general admission Artist Pass (this will let YOU come and go as much as you would like). Anyone accompanying you must have a paid ticket, and we highly suggest purchasing them in advance.

    If you are coming from out of town, Welcome to Detroit! Feel free to contact us in advance if you have any questions about travel or lodging etc.

    AGE RESTRICTIONS: 
    Each night of the exhibition, attendees must be 21 years of age and older.

    There is an ARTIST ONLY exception, that exhibiting artists may be 18 years of age and above, however please note that any companions must be 21+.

    Proper Photo I.D. is always required.

  • HOW TO LABEL YOUR ART 

    1) Ship your artwork safely in packaging that is easy to open and reuse, please avoid excessive taping of the carton, this only adds to the weight and the cost. 
    2) WRITE YOUR LAST NAME clearly on the outside of box (with black marker) in 1 inch tall letters, separate from the shipping label.
    3) Clearly mark which end of the packaging is the best side to be opened. 
    4) LABEL YOUR ART - Use/download our Art Info ID LabelIf multiple pieces were selected, print and attach for each specific piece, Open this in a PDF reader and you can type directly into the form.
    5) Follow the shipping instructions below. 
    6) The artists are responsible for all shipping costs, to and from the show. 
    7) Any special information; and return shipping fee checks/money orders, return shipping labels, prepaid airbills, instructions about hanging etc., should be placed in a sealed envelope and taped to the inside of your package/box and clearly marked "Return Shipping Info".
    8) Look to the tab sections below for either Drop Off Instructions or Shipping Instructions.

    • Art must arrive ready to hang, or display, with proper hanging wire/clips, etc. already fastened to the work/frame (if it is meant to hang)

    • Please test your hanging mechanism to ensure it can hold the weight of your piece 


    • Framed art should be properly framed:

      • No Poster Frames

      • No Sawtooth Hangers

      • DO NOT send art that needs to be "pinned" or "nailed" to a wall, such as push-pins, or thumbtacks etc.

    Any art that requires assembly by us, must be approved in advance.

    Any art that is not properly wired will be assessed a $15.00 wiring fee per piece, to be wired by our staff.

  • DROP-OFF/PICK-UP

    PACKAGING

    ALL ART should be dropped-off in a box/packaging appropriate for the piece (this includes local drop-off art). Write your LAST NAME and ID#(s) on the box. All art must be properly labeled with your ArtCall ID labels (see above) prior to Drop Off.
*Any special information: instructions about hanging etc., should be placed in a sealed envelope and taped to the inside of your package/box and clearly marked "Return Shipping Info".

    *DO NOT drop-off art PRIOR TO or AFTER these dates, no staff from the Dirty Show will be available to handle your art.

    *DO NOT drop art off at our mailing address location.

    LOCAL ART PICK-UP, AFTER THE SHOW:

    • SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1:00-8:00 PM (ONLY)

    ALL UNSOLD ART MUST BE PICKED UP ON THIS DAY. Please bring photo ID. 

    The exhibition is immediately broken down so we can exit the venue, therefore no artwork can be left in the building after this date. If you are unavailable for PICK-UP, make arrangements to have someone else retrieve your work on this day.

    SHIPPED ART MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE JANUARY 31, 2025

    PACKAGING

    ALL ART should be properly packaged and or boxed. In the event your artwork does not sell, it will be returned to you in the packaging it was sent in. DO NOT use packing peanuts / styrofoam material (it makes an enormous mess), please use bubble-wrap. 

    *Any special information: return shipping fee checks/money orders, return shipping labels, prepaid airbills, instructions about hanging etc., should be placed in a sealed envelope and taped to the inside of your package/box and clearly marked "Return Shipping Info".

    Packaging Tips & Materials

    • Using bubble wrap, make a pouch to put your piece into, then insert into a larger pouch if needed. Avoid wrapping the bubble wrap around and around the art, it makes removal and re-use very difficult (this makes a crucial difference given that we handle hundreds of packages, thank you in advance!)

    • Please be advised, oversized packages incur extra freight charges, sometimes 2–3 times the standard rate, consult multiple carriers for the best rate. 

    • Ship early and avoid expedited shipping charges. Many carriers now use Dimensional Weight, which can severely increase the cost to ship larger packages.

    • Consult your carrier's packaging guidelines, many will not cover damaged shipments if they are improperly packaged, regardless of whether they sold you insurance or not.

    GLASS 

    If your work is behind glass, and you are shipping it, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE the use of ACRYLIC, STYRENE or PLEXI-GLASS. Glass may break in shipment, and can damage your artwork (send glass at your own risk).

We suggest that you select a carrier with tracking abilities, and keep copies of your shipping tracking numbers/receipts.

    DOMESTIC SHIPPING (U.S.)

    Domestic Return Shipping Instructions:


    You will need to pre-pay, in advance, for return shipping. Artwork received without a return shipping method or payment, will not hang in the show

    Domestic Options:


    1. BEST WAY: Include a Check or Money Order (Payable to DIRTY SHOW) for the same amount it costs to ship it to us, 

      1. unless you prefer a slower method than you sent it to us (Consult your carrier on the cost), 

      2. please indicate on your check or money order that your payment is for "Return Shipping".


    2. Prepaid shipping forms/air bill with your carrier 

    3. Or a shipper form filled out with all your return info including your account number, if you used a shipping bill with a credit card number, you must include all info required, this includes the 3-digit number from the back of your card


    *Post Office: If you are sending via the US post office, please send it as Standard Post or Priority Mail. Please include an addressed return shipping label, and include pre-paid postage or check for return shipping. DO NOT SEND AS REGISTERED MAIL.

    We understand there are delays in customs, however we will NOT display any art received after February 1, 2025.
Hopefully, you have experience with international exhibitions. Each country follows different rules, therefore, we refrain from describing the “best way” to ship, but the below tips may be useful:

    • Your postal service will most likely be the cheapest way to send your work to us, please check transit times and fees in advance.


    • You may use an international shipper like UPS, FEDEX, DHL or other.


    • You may wish to consult your customs office or broker regarding shipment.


    • The Reason for Export should be: “Temporary Exhibition”


    • The Tax ID# for your Bill of Lading if needed is: 20-2356502

    International Return Shipping Instructions: 

    You will need to pre-pay, in advance, for return shipping. Artwork received without a return shipping method or payment, will not hang in the show.

    • Include a Check or Money Order (in US FUNDS, Payable to the DIRTY SHOW) for the same amount it costs to ship it to us

      1. unless you prefer a slower method than you sent it to us (Consult your carrier for the cost)

      2. please indicate on your check or money order that your payment is for "Return Shipping"

    Additional Return Shipping Details (Domestic or International)

    We will return any pre-paid shipping fees to the artists for any work that sells, and/or destroy any unused return shipping forms. Packaging will go with the purchaser of your artwork if it sells.
We generally try to ship art back to you using the least expensive method available and refund the difference if any, unless you specify an exact method or carrier.


    You may buy insurance and delivery confirmation at your discretion.
We highly suggest a carrier with tracking abilities, keep copies your tracking numbers.

    Any packages received without return shipping fees will be processed AFTER any and all properly shipped packages are processed. We will make an attempt to contact you, after 30 days with no reply your package will be considered abandoned, and subsequently destroyed.

 All Artists are subject to the Terms and Conditions, found in the terms section below at the bottom of the page.

  • Please read this page as you are responsible for it's compliance.


    • The Artist is of legal age (18 or over). The Artist guarantees that all models used in their art/photos are of legal age (18 or over), and have a signed model release, and keep and maintain records of this according to all local, state and national laws


    • Every reasonable precaution will be taken to assure protection of selected work, however the Dirty Show assumes no responsibility for loss or damage from any cause - including shipping to and from the show, submit at your own risk


    • The Dirty Show retains a 35% commission of the selling price of all standard submission pieces, please price your work accordingly

    • All artwork will be on public display at the Dirty Show - Detroit Michigan, and all work must be for sale


    • All artwork needs a Dirty Show I.D. label affixed to the backside or the bottom (for sculpture).


    • The Dirty Show reserves the right to display art in any fashion, layout, or scheme


    • The Dirty Show reserves the right to omit from exhibit, any art, at any time, for any reason

    • No art may be removed until after the after show ends


    • Art shipped to the show will be shipped back to the artist, the artist is responsible for all shipping costs to and from the show


    • Art dropped off to the show needs to be picked up on the assigned Pick-Up Date. Please consult Drop-Off & Pick-Up dates and times. These dates are subject to change, based on the exhibit demand


    • All unsold art will be returned to the artist


    • After the show's close any unclaimed art will be donated, or disposed of.

    • Please read and understand the shipping/drop off and hanging instructions.


    • Do not send art that has not been accepted or requested by us, it will not hang.


    • The Artist warrants that they are the authors of the artwork and it is of personal execution

    • The Artist shall hold Dirty Show, LLC harmless from and against any loss, expense, or damage occasioned by any claim, demand, suit, or recovery against The Dirty Show arising out of the exhibition and sale of the work, or for the use of the work by the Dirty Show in the promotion and advertising of the exhibition


    • The Dirty Show is NOT responsible for artwork shipped to us that is not registered in advance of it's arrival


    • Location and time of event is subject to change.


    • Each Artist with work in the show is allowed free personal entry to the exhibit, however it is not necessary to attend the exhibit. Artists will receive a pass that allows them entry to the show, for the run of the show upon arrival at the Artist Check-In


    • The Artist grants the Exhibition the permission to use a photo likeness of your artwork for marketing proposes

    • The Dirty Show reserves the right to withdraw acceptance if the quality does not reflect images submitted
